The Assumption refers no more or less to when Mary ascends to heaven at the end of her days . It is undoubtedly one of the Church’s most solemn celebrations. Despite that, there are those who are convinced that this holiday is heir to a pagan tradition dedicated to the harvest.
This virgin is also known as the Virgen del Tránsito , that is why she passed into the afterlife. In the 7th century the celebration of the transit was introduced in Rome by Pope Sergio I. Years later, the word transit was replaced by assumption.
